The Armour of God.
Gods’ Warning for Our Protection
Let us begin with God’s direct warning for us, Ephesians 6:10 – 13 and it is states, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand (King James Version, 1998-2022, Ephesians 6: 10-13).
Verse 10 states for us to remember that we can be strong in the Lord because he has power. If you feel weak, down and defeated, remember this verse.
Verse 11 states that God has given us a full body of armor, that he has created specifically for us. This verse goes on to say that we can withstand the devil and everything he throws against us. Why would God give this specific instruction to wear a piece of armor that he has created specifically for us against the devil? This is because God understands the levels and composites in which the devil battles against Gods righteous people.
Verse 12 tells us that the battle will not be between humans, but between darkness and evil in the spiritual places. If you are still confused about what you are fighting for, go back and read verse 12 again.
Verse 13 Gods states that we are to utilize the Full body of armor, which he has given to us, so that we will not be overcome by the devil (King James Version, 1998-2022, Epiphanies 6:10- 13).
The Full Body Armor of God
The Armor of God comes from the book of Ephesians 6:14 – 19 and it tells us, stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (King James Version, 1998-2022, Ephesians 6:14- 19). Let us break down each piece of armor!
The Belt of truth: Why would God tell us to wrap around are waist the belt of truth? Having a core in the truth, which is the word of God, will always be a solid foundation. We will be able to stand firm and strong in the word of God. Remember that the devil utilizes lies and deceits to breakdown our core. If you do not have the truth and are believing lies, do you think that our lives will be able to follow the plan that God has for us?
The Breastplate of Righteousness: Do you know what a breast plate is? Many of those who play sports or ride certain types of motor vehicles will have something that is considered a chest plate or breastplate to protect their body's core. God said, to put on the breastplate of righteousness. To understand better, righteousness is a form of action or a way that a person carries themselves. The righteousness covers that persons' core and helps the person be shielded from a hit to the chest.
The Shoes of Peace: This part of the armor God tells us, that we are to go about our daily lives in peace. That through the gospel in which we have learned, that is God’s words, we will be at peace with ourselves and others.
Shield of Faith: This is the only part of the armor that God has given us free will to utilize. Remember that because this is a shield, it is used to block things from coming to the body. If your shield of faith is smaller, it will not block things attacking the body, but if your shield of faith is larger it could even cover the whole body. It is your free will to choose to increase or decrease your shield of faith!
Helmet of Salvation: The helmet of salvation is given to you from God to block your mind from hearing the deceitful words of the devil. Remember that the words from God will not only be in your heart but it will also be within your mind. It is up to you on a regular basis review what information you are allowing to come into your mind. Please remember that if you decide to pay attention to things that are not of God you are intentionally taking off the helmet of salvation.
Sword of the Spirit: The word of God is the sword of the spirit that is your only offensive weapon. This weapon is to be always used to knock down, to tear down and to defend against anything that comes to you from the devil. If you do not have the word of God and you are fighting against the devil, that means that you do not have your sword to defend yourself. You may have a shield of faith, but how long can you hide behind it? At some point in your life, you are going to be asked by God to standup and utilize his word in your life. Do not be afraid to utilize the sword because the sword is God's word and God’s word it Is true.
